Coach and Horses
A historic Shepherd Neame pub in the heart of Soho
About Coach and Horses
The Coach and Horses stands on the corner of Old Compton Street and Charing Cross Road, at the eastern edge of Soho. It is one of the area's most historic watering holes, on a site that has served drinkers since the eighteenth century, and the handsome Grade II listed building still keeps its period character: wood panelling, dark green glazed tiles, etched brewery mirrors and a warm, snug interior that fills quickly on a busy evening.
Today it is a Shepherd Neame pub, run by Britain's oldest brewer, based in Faversham, Kent since 1698. After spells under other names, the original Coach and Horses identity was restored in 2019 following a full refurbishment, bringing a proper traditional pub back to this corner of the West End.
The bar pours a rotating range of Kentish cask ales, including well known Shepherd Neame beers such as Spitfire and Bishops Finger, alongside lagers, wines and spirits. It is an easy, unpretentious spot for a pint before the theatre, a relaxed catch-up, or a first stop on a night out, a few minutes' walk from Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.
With its central Old Compton Street setting in the heart of Soho's dining and nightlife, the Coach and Horses offers a genuine slice of old London character in one of the city's liveliest quarters.
