All About

Goslett Yard

Goslett Yard is a short turning off the west side of Charing Cross Road, on Soho's eastern edge. It was George Yard until 1936, after an inn at its end, then renamed for A. Goslett and Co., a plate-glass and builders' merchant at 127 to 131 Charing Cross Road.

The yard's grimmest moment came on 25 July 1965, when the former world light-heavyweight champion, film actor and club owner Freddie Mills was found dead in a car parked here, shot in the head. Today it is a quiet service lane lined with the backs of bars and venues, a few steps from the theatres around Cambridge Circus.
