All About

Greek Court

Greek Court is a small enclosed court off the south side of Old Compton Street, near its junction with what was once Little Compton Street. It first appears as an unnamed gap between houses, was shown on early insurance maps as Star Court, and was being called Greek Court by the 1940s, echoing the Greek refugee settlement that named nearby Greek Street.

At its far end stood a theatre built in 1911 by Montagu Pyke, later the Tatler, which fronted onto Charing Cross Road. The court is now largely sealed off and serves residential flats reached through a gated communal passage, so although still technically public it is little seen.
