All About

Moor Street

Moor Street is short, tucked between Old Compton Street and Charing Cross Road, just steps from Tottenham Court Road station. The name likely dates to the 17th century and may tie back to the Moorfields area, or to early traders with North African roots, a common naming influence in that era. It sits right in the middle of Soho's creative and entertainment district.

One of the standout spots is the historic Coach and Horses pub, known for its literary connections and its long association with journalist Jeffrey Bernard. Just opposite, Maison Bertaux, a much-loved French patisserie since 1871, has served artists and performers for generations.

Transport is excellent, with Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road stations both a few minutes away, which makes it handy for theatre-goers and locals alike. No major historical figures are recorded as having lived here. Its character comes instead from the stories made daily by the people passing through and those who call Soho home, along with the businesses that line it.
