Tenison Court is a small turning near the corner of Kingly Street, in the western part of Soho behind Regent Street. It was earlier known as Chapel Court, after the chapel that stood beside it.
That chapel was St Thomas's Church, also called Tenison Chapel, which gave the court its later name. It traced its origins to a temporary chapel completed in 1688 by Thomas Tenison, later Archbishop of Canterbury, and was rebuilt facing Regent Street in 1702. In 1854 part of the building was turned into a shop and dwelling with a new entrance on the court side. The church closed in 1954 and was demolished. The court now holds offices and shops.
