Why So Many UK Online Casinos Are Run by the Same Operator

A new casino name does not always mean someone has built a new casino business. Quite often, an operator has added another website to a system it already runs.

The expensive parts are already there: accounts, payments, game connections, customer checks and the people keeping everything working. Adding another brand gives the company another chance to find customers without paying to build all of that again.

That explains much of the overlap between UK casinos. But it leaves a fair question: if the company already has a working casino, why bother giving the next one a different name?

SkillOnNet Shows How One Business Can Run Several Casinos

SkillOnNet is a perfect example of how this works. PlayOJO, SpinGenie and SlotsMagic have their own names and designs, but all three sit under Skill On Net Limited’s British gambling licence.

The company already has a platform for running casino accounts, connecting games and handling payments. When it adds another brand, it can adapt those systems instead of building everything again. Its technology allows different designs, payment options and game connections across the sites it supports.

That leaves more room to work on what makes each brand worth choosing. PlayOJO puts no-wagering bonuses at the centre of its offer, for example, giving players a clear reason to recognise that name. The company can develop that offer while using technology that also supports its other casinos.

There is still work and money involved in running each site. But another brand does not require another payment platform, another set of game connections and a fresh technical build from the ground up. Reusing those parts is what makes running several casinos more practical.

OnlineCasinoGroups brings these brands together in its collection of Skill On Net online casinos UK. You can compare the group’s UK casinos there and see which familiar names belong to the same operator.

Different Names Give Players Different Reasons to Join

The operator now has a cheaper way to launch another site. It still needs to give people a reason to choose that site over the one it already runs.

That is where the brand comes in. A bingo player, a roulette player and someone looking for simple slot bonuses may respond to quite different homepages.

Put bingo first and the site feels built for bingo players. Fill the page with football markets and odds, and you are talking to another audience, even if casino games sit in the next tab.

Offers can give those brands a clearer difference, too. PlayOJO, for example, promotes bonuses with no wagering requirements, making that part of its reason to join.

Compare that with a hypothetical £20 bonus carrying 30x wagering on the bonus alone. That would mean £600 in qualifying bets before meeting the requirement.

Those are different propositions, however similar the account menus might look. One operator can use several brands to offer different deals rather than force every customer towards the same one.

Of course, sometimes the difference really is mostly cosmetic. Another logo does not automatically mean another experience, which is why counting casino names can make the market look more varied than it is.

Sometimes the Name Comes From a Partner

An operator does not always invent its next brand. Another business may arrive with a name and an audience, then ask the operator to handle the gambling service.

This is the basic idea behind a white-label casino. The partner has something to market; the operator has the systems and licence needed to run it.

For a brand partner, building everything from scratch would mean taking on a very different business. Advertising a casino and running its payments, accounts and customer checks are separate jobs.

Working with an existing operator lets each side bring something useful. It also puts another casino name into the market without creating another independent gambling operation.

The licence still carries real responsibility. In Britain, the licence holder remains accountable for compliance on white-label sites, even when a partner supplies the brand.

Other Groups Get Bigger by Buying Casinos

So far, these are ways to launch another brand. Buying an existing business takes a different shortcut: it brings customers and recognised names that are already there.

That is how some of the biggest groups ended up with so many brands. They did not create every casino themselves.

GVC, which later became Entain, bought Ladbrokes Coral in March 2018. Today, Entain’s UK and Ireland online brands include Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala and Foxy.

There was a clear plan to save money by combining parts of the business. The deal came with a target of £130 million in cost savings, alongside plans to move the Ladbrokes Coral UK online businesses onto GVC’s technology platform.

That figure puts the shared-systems argument into perspective. Combining technology and other work was a major part of the deal, while the familiar customer-facing names could stay.

A group can still contain more than one licensed operating company. Shared ownership and sharing one exact operator are not always the same thing, although both help explain why casino names outnumber the businesses behind them.

Changing the Name Could Throw Away What They Bought

After a takeover, replacing every brand with one name might look tidier. It could also mean throwing away some of what made the purchase worthwhile.

A customer may recognise Ladbrokes from the high street or already have an account with Gala. The buyer gets that familiarity along with the business.

Making everyone switch to an unfamiliar name creates work and gives customers another decision to make. Keeping the brand lets the group change parts of the operation while leaving something recognisable in front of the player.

This is why casino names often survive changes in ownership. The company behind them can change without the homepage needing a completely new identity.

So an operator has several reasons to keep more than one name: lower shared costs, different audiences, brand partnerships and customers gained through takeovers. None requires every site to become an entirely separate business.

For the player, the choice of brands is real. The mistake is assuming that every different name comes with a different company running the show.
